Fire is one of the most common causes of injury in emergency situations and could occur at any place from a household to a factory, with varied degrees of destruction. As such firefighting is an important skill to master and necessary skill to have.

The Royal College Old Scouts Association organized an introductory fire safety and firefighting program for the scouts of Gold Troop to teach them the basics of firefighting and to offer them first hands on experience on using fire extinguishing equipment. The program was conducted by Mr R.G. Wijesuriya , Stationed Fire Officer at the Colombo Fire Services Department, on 04 March 2015 at Royal College premises. The Programme consisted of both theory and practical sessions to teach how to deal with the emergency situations caused by fire and methods of extinguishing it.

The second phase of the program is a visit to the Fire Department to get an advanced training on firefighting which is scheduled to be held in due course.

The Royal College Old Scouts Association extends its special thanks to Old Scout Ishan Rathnapala for organizing this event.
