Royal College Old Scouts Association organized a farewell ceremony for the previous group scout leader Mr B.P.R. Perera (Lal Sir) on 26th May at the Royal College Skills Centre.Mr Perera was the Group Scout Leader of the 42nd Colombo Scout Group for almost 2 decades and played a major role in the success of scouting at Royal College.

Mr. Perera, along with current G.S.L. Mr. Sugath Liyanagunawardena, Mr Rohan Weerasekera, and Masters-in-Charge of scouting Mr. Upul Nishantha and Chanadana Liyanage and about forty past scouts participated in this event.

It was rather an emotional event, with Vidura Ranwaka starting the proceedings with a very emotional welcome speech which took all past scouts to the good old days. This was followed by the Speech by the current G.S.L.

A plaque was presented to Lal Sir by RCOSA which was followed by the speech by Lal sir. He recalled the days he went on camping with the scouts, and talked about the things he still can remember after so many years. He thanked the organizes for organizing the event. It was unbelievable that he could still remember the names of at least more than a quarter of the old scouts who were present, some of whom have left the school more than 15 years ago. This really showed the affiliation he had with the College Scout group.

The formal ceremony was concluded by the thanking speech by Pasan Jayakody.

This was followed by a small tea party, where everyone had a chance to talk to Lal sir and talk to otherold scouts some of whom haven’t been met for over 15 years.
